REVIEW: TwinEye Wants the “Best 4 You” on New Single

Upbeat and wistful, “Best 4 you” takes the listener on a ride. The track is a dreamy synth-pop record that combines layered and lush vocals with a moody atmosphere, yet it has that glittering electronic sound that is a nonnegotiable for the genre. It is the taste test for the band's upcoming EP.
TwinEye is a Costa Rican-Swiss trio composed of brother and sister Antoni Ottone and Sofía Ottone, alongside their childhood best friend Ernesto “Gugi” Arévalo. The members all grew up in Costa Rica; Arévalo remains there, while the Swiss siblings are now Switzerland-based. The band makes music across two continents.
“Almost everything we do happens online. We're constantly sending demos, voice notes, ideas, guitar parts, and recordings back and forth. That long-distance creative process has become a big part of the band’s identity,” said Ottone.
The band doesn’t believe in limiting itself to one genre, as all three members bring different influences from a wide range of genres into the music.
“Rather than trying to fit into one specific genre, we’re enjoying the freedom of experimenting and discovering what feels authentic to the three of us. We’re still learning and exploring, and every song teaches us something new about our sound,” said Ottone.
The track is an example of them pulling on those diverse influences. Sonically harkening back to the synths used in the 80s in both the pop and new wave genres. It is the type of song that you can dance and sing along to, lending itself to a more nostalgic sound.
Lyrically, it is where the melancholy happens; the song dives deep into feelings of a fractured relationship, where sometimes love is not enough.
“It’s about recognizing that you can deeply care for someone while understanding that, at that moment, you might not be what’s best for each other. That realization can be painful, but it can also be freeing,” said Ottone.
Ottone said the song came from the idea of becoming the best version of yourself and hoping that the person you love will choose you back. The colorful sounds paired with the lyrics create a contrasting dynamic that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.
“We wanted to pair those emotions with an upbeat, nostalgic sound, creating a contrast between the music and the lyrics,” said Ottone.
Love is the central theme of the EP, each track exploring the different forms of love from various perspectives. The music is the kind of music that can accompany you through everyday life.
“Sonically, listeners can expect a fun and colorful mix of indie pop/synth pop, retro influences, guitars, and playful, almost arcade-like textures. Although some of the songs have emotional or nostalgic stories behind them, the EP as a whole feels energetic, warm, and full of life,” said Ottone.
“Best 4 you” is the kind of song that invites the listener into its soundscape and then makes them want to incorporate it into everyday life.
