REVIEW: Chanel Beads Finds Clarity in Uncertainty on “Song for the Messenger”

Chanel Beads’ new single “Song for the Messenger” arrives as a fittingly enigmatic preview of Your Day Will Come, Shane Lavers’ forthcoming sophomore album. True to the project’s quietly magnetic appeal, the track leans into ambiguity without losing its emotional grip, balancing fragility and disorientation in a way that feels both intimate and expansive. Built from Lavers’ instinct-driven recording approach, “Song for the Messenger” carries a loose, almost accidental beauty. The production feels closer to the skin, with percussion that thumps softly but insistently, while gauzy layers of instrumentation drift in and out of focus. There’s a sense that the song could unravel at any moment, yet it never does. Instead, it hovers in a suspended state, mirroring the uncertainty that seems to animate much of Lavers’ writing. 

Lyrically, Chanel Beads continues to trade in open-ended questions and emotional half-lights. Lines feel less like declarations and more like fleeting thoughts caught mid-spiral, reinforcing the idea of a mind turning inward. There’s a subtle tension between detachment and feeling, as if the narrator is both inside the moment and observing it from a distance.
