The Ingrid is one of those rare bands whose origin story feels as natural as their sound, an effortless convergence of friendship, timing, and the shared instinct to make something meaningful. Born out of university jam sessions in cramped rehearsal rooms, the trio initially connected as friends long before realizing the creative spark between them. What began as casual playing quickly transformed into a project with real weight, especially once the three found themselves writing together and stumbling into a chemistry they immediately recognized as special. Their dynamic, woven from different musical backgrounds and personalities, shaped a foundation that was both intuitive and unexpectedly cohesive. With each member bringing their own style, the band’s identity formed not from imitation, but from combining their influences into something distinctly theirs.

That sense of organic creation carries directly into “Limerence,” the band’s shimmering debut single and first official introduction to the world. Chosen for its relatability and the way it captures their emerging sound, the track represents the emotional depth the trio naturally gravitates toward. Written and shaped collaboratively in living-room jams and rehearsal-room experimentation, “Limerence” took on a life of its own as each member added their voice to it. What began as a solid lyrical and melodic idea evolved into a textured, atmospheric piece full of rhythmic twists, subtle motifs, and a glow that fits the winter season of its release. Even in the studio, the band pushed themselves to refine the tiny details.

As they step into this new chapter, The Ingrid is already looking beyond their debut single and toward what comes next. Their shared vision is becoming clearer with each writing session, each late-night jam, and each discovery of the sound that feels uniquely theirs. While they’re keeping future releases close to the chest for now, the band promises that more music is already in the works, hinting at singles and projects they’re excited to reveal soon. If their debut is any indication, The Ingrid’s next steps won’t just continue their story; they’ll expand it into something even more compelling.

LIFE ON JUPITER: How did The Ingrid form? What brought the members together?

JESS: Friendship existed before the band, but we all played instruments and had an interest in music. One day me and Will sat down with his guitar, and we were like, why haven’t we done this before? Then the idea of the band sort of fell into place quite easily.

JOSH: I literally met Jess properly after the band had been formed. Me and Will used to jam together in the practice rooms, not for any reason, just to have fun. It just fell into place that Will and Jess would jam too. In our first session together, we all knew it was something special.

WILL: University is a great place to meet like-minded musicians and friends, as I met Josh and Jess first as friends and then bandmates through jamming in those stuffy little rehearsal rooms.

Why did you choose “Limerence” as your debut single?

JESS: I think the song is relatable to a lot of people and also captures the sound of the band really well.

JOSH: It’s got a catchy hook that really draws people in, and the subject matter and themes really encapsulate our whole vibe.

WILL: We chose “Limerence” as it really matched up with the time of year as a release, it does feel like a nice winter song that can make you feel better inside (especially with a nice cuppa tea).

What was the creative process like for this single?

JESS: “Limerence” was one of those songs that just sort of fell into place. I had shown the lyrics, chords, and melody to the band, and when we got to the rehearsal room, the song took on a life of its own.

JOSH: Jess came in with the idea, really solid. My drums took it a whole other direction rhythmically, which I believe took some getting used to for other band members, but we all trusted the process, and it turned out great.

WILL: Well, once Jess had shown us the chords, we kinda just jammed in our living room to build those roots and foundations of the song. We established several motifs that really lent to the song's lyrics and ran from there in the practice rooms to hone in on the final sounds.

Were there any challenges in producing this single?

JESS: Producing with Greg was a joy. I’d say the main challenge I found was ironing out the little details. For example, when the song goes to the outro, there was a lot of back and forth on how to achieve that sound of ‘falling into’ the outro.

JOSH: The studio setting was exciting but daunting. I’ve been playing for over a decade, but never in that setting. Once the nerves settled, it was one of the best experiences of my life.

WILL: Lots of self-criticism on my end, as anyone who does music can tell you, you are your worst enemy, as hearing something that I have had a part in can be very tricky to get to sit right in my head.

How would you describe The Ingrid’s musical style?

JESS: We are a bridge between dream pop, shoegaze, and modern indie. What’s important to mention, though, is that I think our style comes from the music we all individually listen to and enjoy. For example, Will brings a lot of blues and indie rock, Josh with his classic rock, and I love dream pop, trip pop, and my singer-songwriters.

JOSH: Exactly like Jess said, three very different musical backgrounds colliding into a dreamy, shoegazy vibe.

WILL: We all come from different musical backgrounds and genres, for instance, as Jess said, I started out playing blues and classic 70s stadium anthems, but now I definitely lean towards modern indie, think of bands like Westside Cowboy or Backstreet Lovers.

Do you have any major musical influences?

JESS: So hard to only name a few. Dodie was the person who inspired me to actually start writing music. I also really look up to the writing of Phoebe Bridgers, The Sundays, and The Marías.

JOSH: My family. They’re a very musical group; most of them played forms of brass. My dad liked to play a lot of instruments, and I took that from him. In terms of famous people, anybody I ever saw play the drums live, I always wanted that to be my life.

WILL: Loads, I try to listen to as much music as possible so I can pull ideas and inspiration all places like early Foals albums (Balloons) or garage rock like Cleopatrick (Bummer), but my biggest influence is chill or relaxed music like Sticky Fingers (Caress Your Soul), Ocean Alley (Lost Tropics), or Mac Demarco (This Old Dog).

Are there any themes or recurring ideas in your music?

JESS: I think our songs share the theme that they explore deep human emotions through the music, and each song is a little discovery in itself.

JOSH: A huge overarching theme of our first songs is ‘looking back’ and all of the love and sadness and horror that comes with that.

WILL: Musically, yes, I think we have a style that’s unique to us, and it sets us out when being compared to other bands.

What’s next after this debut single? Do you have an EP, an album, or more singles planned?

JESS: We have some stuff lined up. Not saying anything more than that yet!!

JOSH: Just you wait, we’ve got some good stuff coming up.

WILL: We’re currently in the process of writing new songs as well as finalizing others, so all in all, there’s lots to do, but the new songs are going to bang.
