Toronto-based Sam Louis is no stranger to a bold track. His singular brand is derived from an amalgamation of heavy guitar riffs, honest lyricism and an emphasis on standout electronic production combining to form catchy hooks that demonstrate both Louis’ musicianship and adept writing. His latest track “cave in” follows this formula (if such a word could be utilized to describe Louis’ incomparable sound), creating a soaring, atmospheric tone set against his meditative lyrics.
Louis has become a prominent rising figure in the Canadian alternative music scene, performing at Canadian Music week showcases, reaching Top 50 on Canada’s Got Talent and garnering over 2.5 million streams following his placement on Spotify and Amazon playlist, as well as becoming an International Songwriting Competition Semifinalist and Indigenous Music Award Winner. As its name suggests,“cave in” encompasses an overwhelming feeling of oversimulation, no doubt partially inspired by Louis’ own experiences with fame and success.
In his own words, Louis states, "I wrote “cave in” around the overwhelming feeling of losing control but not hope…when everything is moving too fast around you and you keep failing to slow yourself down. ‘cave in’ is about searching for that light at the end of the collapsing tunnel."
The track reflects this somber, dark mood, featuring Louis’ signature digitally edited vocals set against an alluring, hooking guitar riff. Backed by a driving basic drum rhythm, the song explodes into an open, evocative, moody landscape, as Louis chases the aforementioned feelings of inadequacy and hopelessness. He desperately pleads to listeners, “slow it down…don’t let the walls cave in.”
With his first touring circuit slated for 2027 and his new-full length album “low impact” releasing shortly, the future looks bright for the promising artist as he continues to hone his signature cinematics ound. “cave in” will tide over eager listeners until Louis’ next release or future show, providing a cathartic midnight drive song.
