“meet me at the tree swing” is San Diego-based indie alternative rock artist SAB!’s most renowned single. The lush and hollow spaciousness this song showcases is both distinct and complementary to the rest of SAB!’s discography.
Displaying a reverbed guitar riff and an airy drum pattern, the production places audiences into a pure, glistening atmosphere. Along with this, the gentle yet powerful washed out vocals are the star of the show in displaying the moonlit ambience “meet me at the tree swing” presents. Maybe the most special moments in the song come when the vocals and guitar riff harmonize so perfectly together to enhance the buoyant feeling this piece of music gives. The space the vocals fill at the end of the lyric “oh, it’s got you drowning and I’m trying to save you” is an instant of total ascension.
The song opens with the lyrics “come down to the tree swing and speak your mind before we run out of time,” setting the tone for a vulnerable story to be told. Later on, the lyrics are embedded with advice that are not only meaningful to the audience the tune is directed to in some way but relatable to anybody listening, showcasing a songwriter who can craft a powerful message. While many of the sentences have melancholic themes, the final phrase, “I’ll bury you in flowers in the golden hour” is the moment of solace that shows this story is an aid to the heavy-hearted, not a hopeless vision for the future.
“meet me at the tree swing” is the perfect cure for those experiencing post-concert depression after watching Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D) in theatres and the X on the treasure map of those searching for a tune that mirrors the magic of Lana Del Rey.
