Sometimes you know a relationship isn’t good for you, but walking away doesn’t make it any easier. On “Bored,” Leeds-based alternative artist Pick The Flowers explores what it feels like to be led on by someone you still have feelings for. The track centers on a relationship that’s falling apart, capturing the frustration of wanting things to work out while knowing it might be time to let go.
It’s not always easy to cut ties with someone you’ve grown attached to, even when the relationship has become toxic. That’s the feeling behind “Bored,” which explores the kind of connection that keeps you coming back even when you know it’s doing more harm than good. There’s a difference between missing someone and wanting them back. This song sits somewhere in the middle of those feelings.
Pick The Flowers blends influences from theatrical pop, ’90s rock and electronic pioneers. Rather than sticking to one sound, she blends these styles into something a little unexpected. This approach leaves room for experimentation, with music that can feel dramatic, offbeat and catchy all at once.
That same mix of contrasts runs through Pick The Flowers’ wider artistic vision, which draws on cinematic soundscapes and hypnotic rhythms to create a world of their own. With “Bored,” she looks more closely at the messier side of relationships, when knowing you should move on doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ready. It’s a feeling that's hard to explain, especially when you’re still trying to make sense of what went wrong. That’s what makes Pick the Flowers feel so relatable. Sometimes, you don’t really know how to explain what you’re feeling, and the song manages to put that feeling into words when you can’t quite find them yourself.
