22-year-old Emma Harner’s debut album Evening Star has arrived, ushering in a new era for the budding musician. Harner first gained popularity in 2025, stemming from her viral guitar playing. Harner has since moved from Nebraska to Boston, bringing her unique sound from her bedroom to global stages.

Fronted by singles “Gale,” “Seams,” and “You’re Right,” Evening Star is laden with Harner’s math-rock-inspired riffs and infused with her intricately woven guitar melodies. The multihyphenate performed every instrument on the album, combining hypnotic tones in order to create an almost serene atmosphere, produced by Jamie Mefford (renowned for his work with Gregory Alan Isakov).

On “Gale,” Harner demonstrates her hypnotic guitar playing, meshing the comfort of folk acoustics with intricate harmonies to create a new sense of nostalgia. Her clear, entrancing vocals combine with soft chimes to form a relaxing airiness. Alongside the soaring vocal lines and guitar melodies that define the album, the record also highlights Harner’s versatility, including the belting chorus of “Charlotte” and haunting tune of “Woman of The Hour.” The record details love, friendship, and yearning, set to a backing track of dreamy, hazy instrumentals.

Harner is a favorite of influential DJ Zane Lowe, first having her track “When You Mean It” featured on his show in 2024. Since then, she has garnered acclaim from Guitar.com, producer Rick Beato, and amassed a loyal following, opening for acts such as mxmtoon and Tiny Habits. With her distinctive guitar playing and intelligent, emotional storytelling, Evening Star marks a bold beginning for the young artist.
