Dipped in nostalgia, Couvo has you floating in the clouds with his newest single, “THRIFT STORE JACKET.” The track is his fourth single for his newest album, WHEN YOU STILL THOUGHT I WAS SOMEONE GOOD FOR YOU

The twinkling chords in the beginning and the slightly scratchy guitar chords produce that sense of dreamy nostalgia. This is completely intentional as Couvo has dubbed this upcoming album as “nostalgiacore.’’

“My music has always had a certain tinge of nostalgia to it. The characters in these songs are usually ruminating on something that's already happened, and that's carried over into the sonics too. It ends up sounding both vintage and current at once,” said Couvo.

Sonically, the song carries a wistfulness. It sweeps you into situations that have already passed and asks you to revisit them. The lyrics also provoke strong imagery with the specificness that they carry. The titular thrifted jacket that is mentioned in the lyrics is a great example of this— it doesn’t limit the reader, rather it is something everyone can relate to. Something as universal as a jacket is accessible to all types of listeners.

Couvo said that the inspiration behind the track is that we all create narratives in our heads that aren’t always necessarily true. Everyone wants things to be true that aren’t; believing that something is true doesn’t make it actually true.

“THRIFT STORE JACKET is about the stories we tell ourselves, about love, about who we're going to become and the realization that sometimes the only person you're fooling is yourself,” said Couvo.

Couvo wants listeners to walk away from this track with the understanding that everyone can relate to this record in one way or another.

“If there's one thing I want people to walk away with, it's the recognition that we're all stuck in the same spot: caught between pursuing the goals we want for our lives and the financial reality that never seems to go hand in hand with creating something beautiful,” said Couvo.

This song is perfect for the upcoming summer days. Blast it on the ride to somewhere and fool yourself into believing something new.
