REVIEW: BELLE SHEA LEAVING US SPEECHLESS WITH HER NEW SINGLE “CHOKE”

“Choke,” Belle Shea’s latest single, is just the beginning of a new era Shea is creating for herself. Leading up to her new album. Starting off with a bang, “Choke” is one of those songs that makes you sit back and marinate in your feelings, leaving you wanting to listen on repeat.
Belle Shea is an alternative rock artist, bringing her Southern Florida sound all the way up the East Coast to Brooklyn, New York. Not only a singer-songwriter, but she is also active in her community, organizing a monthly songwriters residency and creating a welcoming space for local artists.
With the release of “Choke,” listeners get a peek into Shea’s new album. Although being the first single ahead of the album, Shea did not hold back on releasing a song that seems to have a life of its own. Despite having no chorus, the song still remains catchy with every verse, and the only repeating line we get throughout the song is “I made you into my home, now all I do is choke.”
Throughout the song, Shea tells us a story about being aware of the circumstances she’s in, but at the same time still being unsure about some of her feelings and the decisions she's made. We, as the listeners, are being put in Shea’s shoes while she battles with herself regarding the uncertainty of the situation. There’s a lot of questioning whether her relationship with this person is the result of Shea or something else at hand. She brings up a multitude of different reasons for why she is feeling this way.
The lyrics are so intimate that in between the verses, we begin to trace that feeling back to any time we have felt uncertainty in our lifes whether it be with another person or an everyday situation. Shea beautifully puts it all together, creating a song from all those entangled emotions and leaving us wanting more.
